TENCEL - An eco-friendly semi-sythetic fibre
TENCEL, a brand name of Lyocell and Modal fibre made by LENZING, is a type of cellulose fibre made from sustainably sourced wood pulp. What sets Tencel apart is its closed-loop production process, which recycles water and solvents and minimizes environmental impact. With carbon emissions and water consumption of TENCEL fibers being at least 50% lower compared to generic lyocell and modal fibers, this eco-conscious approach makes TENCEL one of the most sustainable fibres available.
Why TENCEL is an great fibre for clothing
One of the standout features of Tencel fabric is its exceptional softness and smooth texture. With a luxurious skin-feel akin to silk, Tencel drapes beautifully and feels gentle against the skin. Its moisture-wicking properties also make it ideal for everyday wear, keeping you cool and comfortable throughout the day.
Is TENCEL more Natural or Synthetic?
This fibre is made from wood pulp, a sustainable natural resource. But, because it is man-made through a chemical process, it is classified as a synthetic biobased fibre. However, the fibers are certified as compostable and biodegradable, and thus can fully revert back to nature.
TENCEL incorporated into FIELDTRIP garments
TENCEL is biodegradable and environmentally friendly, while also boasting greater tensile strength and elasticity than cotton. Accordingly, we are happy and excited to use TENCEL thread in our products, and you can be sure that your FIELDTRIP garments won't fall apart at the seams. As a big fan of contrasting top-stitching too, the right thread is an important detail to get right. See our Field Overshirt below made using TENCEL threads.
